Ian Simpson - Hon. Treasurer

For 32 years Ian worked for the Barclays Bank Group around the world from Belize to Hong Kong although much of it was spent in East, Central and Southern Africa. Following early retirement in 1990 Ian spent 10 years as Bursar of The Royal Scottish Corporation, a Charity with an expenditure of around £1.5 million with the remit to help Scots in London in need, hardship and distress.

Full retirement followed in 2000. Since then Ian has have been involved in a number of different areas of interest. becoming a mentor with the Princes Trust, helping young aspiring business men and women in starting a business.

Ian became Treasurer and subsequently chairman of trustees, and is still a trustee, of Bluebird Community Partnership, a community transport charity based in Mid Sussex. This charity has grown steadily from its beginnings in the late 1990’s and is a charitable company limited by guarantee.

For some years Ian was the bookkeeper for Action for Deafness and watched AFD grow very significantly. Ian stood down from these duties only because the councillor role demanded more of his attention. In 2007 Ian was elected as a Burgess Hill town councillor and was re elected in 2011 but also was elected as a district councillor representing Franklands ward in Burgess Hill
