Cathy Cobbold

Training, Marketing and Fundraising Coordinator

From full hearing Cathy became profoundly deafened in 1989, there was no injury or illness, it was possibly a bi-lateral virus within the auditory nerve. Cathy is blessed with an encouraging and proactive family who pushed for support and actively urged her to improve her communication skills.

Following rehabilitation on the LINK, now Hearing Concern LINK, centre intensive programme and with assistance from Cathy's local lip reading tutor she trained as a deaf awareness trainer and as a lip reading tutor.

Through Cathy's hard work as a Deaf Awareness Trainer she began to take a more active role with her Hard of Hearing Club, representing them throughout the County in a number of different areas. She served with Howard White on a number of Social Services Committees and was privileged to be part of the steering group charged with setting up a new organisation serving the needs of Deaf and Hard of Hearing People in West Sussex. Cathy served on the committee for a number of years.

Cathy is proud to be part of the Action for Deafness team, her role involves coordinating the training, marketing and fundraising, and any suggestions or ideas are greatly welcomed.
