Action for Deafness

The Amplicom PowerTel 580 Combo has good volume levels and is full of popular features – what’s more is it includes both a corded phone and a cordless handset, combining the best of both worlds!

It has a very large phonebook memory, caller ID, speakerphone and even an answerphone. The on-hook dialling and phonebook have a voice announce option for those with visual impairments and the buttons are large and clear. The phone has adjustable tone and volume, with a boost button and especially nice is the User Profile feature which allows users to pre-program their personal volume, tone and boost settings - you can have 3 user profiles on the corded phone and 2 on the cordless handset.

The display is clear and easy to read, with an orange backlight.

The PowerTel corded phone has an inductive T coil in the handset and is compatible with all hearing aids with a telecoil facility (as with all our amplified corded telephones). The cordless handset has a T coil and some hearing aid users will find the level of background noise acceptable when using the DECT telephone handset directly with 'T' with their hearing aid. Those who find the background noise unsatisfactory can use a T-Link inductive earhook or CLA7 neckloop (purchased separately) in the 2.5mm headset socket; it is simply a matter of trial and personal preference.

In our view the Amplicom PowerTel 580 Combo is a top-end, well designed phone package, packed full of nice features for deaf people. Due to the number of features, the phones aren't necessarily intuitive to use and we'd recommend reading the instruction booklet! The User Profile option is particularly useful, especially in a multi-user household. We particularly like this Combo package which combines the best of both worlds - corded AND cordless!
